Reflection blog #3

As with everything that I have read this year, The Crucible apparently shows a remarkable amount of puritan properties. And while I agree with the statement, I must digress my hatred towards this particular topic, simply because of it's repetitive actions. So the play shows off it's puritan lifestyle about as well as a ghost tells you it doesn't exist. That is to say very well. The underline message of this play, or at least what I have decided it to be, is that the Christians are in an ongoing battle against the force of satan, who actually isn't that bad of a guy. Think about it, satan punishes the wicked, doesn't that make him similar to a good guy, and he only killed like ten people in the bible with god's permission, while god decided to go on to commit several genocides. Just saying that god keeps him around for a reason, probably. Any who the book depicts the well rounded Christians as being the main force of good while the witches are the devil's minions. Kind of implying that these people are better than everyone else because they are religious and they are willing to keep it that way with the help of paranoia and a lot of godly murder. It's okay because it is commanded of them by god, even though thats one of the first things he told us not to do. As this is mostly speculation from my subconscious and the little it understood of the book allow me to find some passages from the novel to help prove my point. "Abigail: I saw Goody Hawkins with the devil! Betty: I saw Goody Bibber with the devil! Abigail: I saw Goody Booth with the devil!" (Miller 48). My interpretation of this and most other elements of this book clearly define the outline of a society that has gone and passed the line of turning on itself, and is nowhere near being able to repair itself. As you can see these people have just given the names of a few people whom they believe to be with the devil out of nothing but paranoia caused by the other peoples paranoia telling them that these people were with the devil, which was caused by the paranoia of being accused of this themselves. Paranoia is the absolute worst thing that can happen to a society, because it causes people to turn on each other for no reason, thus creating more paranoia, and it is almost impossible to get rid of. And when you have a boat loaded with boats filled with paranoia, it only gets worse, and thus this is why I hate the Puritans. They find it necessary to unintentionally cause paranoia and simply piss people off. Or maybe it's just me. So yea this abstract idea that the people causing paranoia are somehow better than everyone else because they are christian is a clear mark of ignorance which is most likely the cause of all this witch tom foolery gobbledegook nonsense.
